Community Schools Initiative

The Community School Initiative is the logical extension of P2L’s whole-child approach. Through our trauma-informed, anti-racist social work lens, we work to remove obstacles so students and families can focus on the joys of learning and living. P2L’s Community School model is founded on Collaboration, Connection, and Creativity. Our Community School Directors and school-based Social Workers are deeply embedded in their school communities. They facilitate Collaboration among stakeholders, including students & families, faculty, administration, elected officials, and neighborhood partners. We Connect our school communities with vital resources such as food banks, scholarships, and eye glasses. We find Creative solutions to sticky problems. We do this in service of the Creativity aglow in each of our students. The Community School Initiative asserts - and at P2L we believe - that when students can see and hear, when their bellies are full, when their mom is treated as a valued participant in their education, they are free to thrive.

If there is one thing I know from this work - it is critical that students feel valued and connected with multiple adults within their communities.

They bring with them an extensive network of partners that will be invaluable to P.S. 15.  They understand what it means to be a Community School.  P2L has already brought on a full-time social worker and plans to offer a superior wrap around after-school program with P.S. 15 beginning in January.  Our collaborative practices coupled with their expertise will support the creation of an exceptional community school.
